How to get a free SSL Certificate for any domain at godaddy in a few minutes.
Please note that this Free SSL will be valid only for 90 days so you need to set a reminder to renew it every three months.
SSL is important to make sure that visitors to your site will not get a security notification that your website is not secured to visit.
Lets start securing your website
- Open punchsalad.com and click on SSL Generator.
- Enter your domain name in the same way it is mentioned on the boxes yourdomain.com, www.yourdomain.com
- Add your email address “don’t worry you will not receive spam emails we need it for verification and for sending reminders.
- Keep it HTTP
- Add check mark to Get a reminder 7 days before your SSL Expires.
- Add check mark on Accept Lets Encrypt SA
- Click on Create Free SSL Certificate button.
Now we are going to work on godaddy to verify your domain ownership
- Download File #1 and File #2 and keep them accessible as we are going to upload them to godaddy.
- Open your godaddy account and go to cpanel then file manager
- Click on public html and then folder add new folder and name it “.well-known”
- Open .well-known folder and add a new folder inside it and name it “acme-challenge”
- Now upload the two files that we downloaded earlier into this folder
- Go back to punchsalad website and click on verify domain
Your certificate is now ready to be added to godaddy
- Go back to godaddy cpanel and scroll down to Security and click on SSL/TLS
- From the right menu chose Install and manage SSL For your site HTTPS
- Select the domain that you want to secure
- From punchsalad website copy the first box from Begin Certificate to End Certificate be carefull not to copy the entire content
- Paste the content in your godaddy first box (certificate CRT)
- Now copy the remaining content in the first box and paste it on the third box at godaddy (Certificate authority bundle)
- Copy the entire data at puchsalad in the private key box and paste it at the private key box at godaddy
- Click on install certificate
- You will receive a notification informing you that you successfully installed SSL Certificate.
Remember that it is valid only for 90 days so you need to set a reminder and save this post to help you the next time you want to renew.
